CORPUS CHRISTI – The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi men's basketball team took part in its first full-team workout today. Full-fledged practices cannot start until Oct. 14 due to NCAA rules.
Since the start of school, the Islanders have been able to work in small groups for a maximum of two hours per week per player in addition to taking part in strength and conditioning activities. Thursday's event marked the first time the team could work as a full group.
The Islanders bring in a cast of nine newcomers in the first year of the Willis Wilson era, with five scholarship freshmen, two junior-college transfers and a pair of walk-ons joining the team. Texas A&M – Corpus Christi returns four players – just two regulars – from a year ago.
The Islanders open their 2011-12 season on Friday, Nov. 11, at Oklahoma State in Stillwater, Okla. The following Monday will be the home opener, against Denver, in the American Bank Center. Texas A&M - Corpus Christi plays host to 12 home games this season, including non-conference matchups with Utah State, Texas Tech and South Alabama.
