Watt and Reynolds named preseason All-Southland, preseason polls announced

Texas A&M - Corpus Christi senior forwards Justin Reynolds and Demond Watt have been named preseason Second-Team All-Southland by the conference. The Islanders men's basketball team was predicted to finish third in the West Division by the Sports Information Directors and fourth by the head coaches.

Watt was a third-team All-Southland selection following last season while helping the Islanders to a third-place finish in the league. He is the team's top returning scorer after averaging 12.7 points per game and leading the entire conference in shooting percentage with a .658 mark that put him in ninth-place on the Southland's single-season shooting percentage list. He also set a school record in rebounding with 250 last season and was sixth in the league with 7.8 rebounds per contest while ranking sixth in blocks with 39 in 32 games for a 1.2 per game average.

Reynolds was also named to the second team following a resurgent junior season. It is the third-straight season Reynolds has received this honor. Last season, Reynolds was third on the team in scoring at 9.8 points per game and second in rebounding with 193 total for a 6.2 per game average. For his career, he is currently fourth in school history with 555 rebounds.

The sports information directors tabbed the Islanders to finish third in the West Division with 40 points overall and one first-place vote. The coaches predict A&M - Corpus Christi to finish fourth with 35 overall points while also receiving one first-place vote.

Stephen F. Austin was picked to win the conference by both groups, receiving a total of five first-place votes from the coaches and eight from the SIDs. Last season's champion Sam Houston State was picked to finish second in the West and picked up votes for first place from six SIDs and two coaches in the league.

The Islanders team will begin the 2010-11 season this Saturday night in an exhibition game against Texas A&M International. The game will tip-off at 7:00 PM and will be played on-campus at the Dugan Wellness Center.
