The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball team puts its 3-0 record on the line Wednesday when Lamar comes to the American Bank Center for a 7 p.m. contest on Stripes Court.
It will also be the second installment of "All You Can Eat Wednesdays." Fans that purchase the all-inclusive package will be treated to unlimited soft drinks, hot dogs, nachos and popcorn from the time they enter the American Bank Center. Prices are $15 for adults and $10 for kids 12-and-under. The offer will be available for all Wednesday night games in Southland Conference.
At 3-0, the Islanders are one of two unbeaten teams remaining league games with Sam Houston State (2-0) the other. Lamar enters Wednesday's game 2-1 in the league and is 10-8 overall.
The Islanders are coming off a 98-83 win in which they moved to 5-0 at home and matched their highest output of the season. It was their most points scored against an NCAA Division I team since beating Nicholls 107-91 in 2007. The team dished out a season-high 24 assists in the outing.
In the process, three Islanders scored 20-or-more points in the same game for the first time in school history. Kevin Palmer led the way with 25 points including a phenomenal 14-of-15 performance at the foul line. Justin Reynolds scored 23 and grabbed 10 rebounds for the ninth double-double of his career. It was the first time he reached 20 points since his freshman season. Shamar Coombs was the final player to reach 20 as he hit 5-of-6 three-point baskets in the process.
The Islanders will be looking to close the gap in their all-time series with the Cardinals. Lamar leads the series 4-2 including a 2-1 advantage in Corpus Christi. The Islanders won both meetings a season ago. Anthony Miles leads the Cardinals is averaging a team-best 14.2 points and is tops in assists (62) and steals (25). Justin Nabors averages nearly a double-double with 13.4 points and 9.9 rebounds.
