The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball team will look for its second straight road win to start Southland Conference play as it travels to Texas State Wednesday. The game is slated for a 7 p.m. tip at Strahan Coliseum in San Marcos.

The Islanders and Bobcats each opened the Southland Conference season with road wins. A&M-Corpus Christi earned its first road win of the season on Saturday with 64-59 win at Central Arkansas. Texas State handed UT Arlington a 64-60 loss in Texas Hall.

The Islanders trailed early at UCA, but used an 8-0 run to close the first half to pull within one, 29-28, at halftime. They then scored the first four points of the second half to take their first lead of the game. Kevin Palmer, who is second in the league with 20.4 points a game, led the Islanders with 23 points including an 11-of-12 performance at the foul line.

Junior Demond Watt tied the record for consecutive double-doubles finishing with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Watt also broke single-game record for blocked shots by an Islander with seven. The prior record was six and was shared by Pathe Diene and Thomas Bailey.

Point guard Ryan White led the Bobcats to the win finishing with 14 points and five assists. Tony Bishop added 14 points off the bench, while Cameron Johnson pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds. Texas State was able to overcome 28 turnovers by forcing 28 themselves.

A&M-Corpus Christi returns home on Saturday for the first time in 2010 to Northwestern State on Stripes Court at the American Bank Center. The game is set for a 7 p.m. contest.
