The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball team continues its road trip to the Midwest and Northeast on Wednesday night when it visits Monmouth in West Long Branch, N.J. before a brief Christmas break. The game will be fifth ever in the M.A.C. Center which opened this season and can be heard on ESPN 1230 KSIX.
The Islanders are making the program's first-ever trip to the Garden State and will be looking to snap a three-game losing streak. A&M-Corpus Christi erased a 20-plus point deficit on Sunday, but was unable to complete the comeback at Kent State falling 83-76. With the loss, the Islanders dropped to 4-5 on the season.
Kevin Palmer scored 20 of his 25 points in the second half and tied his career high with three three-point baskets. The senior is averaging 20.3 points a game and has not scored below 15 points this season. Demond Watt recorded his first double-double of the season netting 18 points and grabbing a career-high 13 rebounds. He continues to lead the Southland Conference in shooting at 63.9%.
The Hawks have lost six of their last seven games and enter Wednesday's game 3-9. Travis Taylor leads the team with 17 points and eight rebounds a game. Whitney Coleman and Will Campbell each average 11.6 points a game. James Hett leads the team with 61 assists.
The meeting is the second between the two sides with first coming in November of 2006. The Islanders won 71-54. Former Islander Scooby Johnson led all players with 22 points in the game. Only Monmouth's Coleman played in the first meeting.
