Fresh off of winning three games at home, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball team heads to Mississippi this weekend for a 3 p.m. clash with the Rebels of the Southeastern Conference.
The game will be broadcast on 1150 KCCT AM.
With the three straight wins at home, the Islanders improved their record to 4-2 on the season. Ole Miss stands at 4-1 on the season. The Rebels lone loss came in their last outing in the championship game of the Puerto Rico Tip-Off to fifth-ranked Villanova, 79-67.
The Islanders will be facing their third team of the season from a major conference. A&M-Corpus Christi opened the season with a 67-43 win over Oregon State of the Pac 10 before falling to the Big 12's Texas Tech, 66-59. The last time the Islanders visited an SEC program was a year ago when Kevin Palmer hit a half-court shot in overtime for an 80-79 win over Georgia.
This season, Palmer continues to be a bright spot for the Islanders having scored 15-or-more points in every game. He leads the team with 18.8 points a game and 3.5 steals. Palmer is second in the league in scoring, while tops in steals.
Demond Watt is second with 10 a game and is the leader with 7.0 rebounds a game. He is second in the Southland with a 65.9% from the floor. Freshman Terence Jones is third on the team with 9.2 points a game and leads the way with 3.8 assists an outing.
Led by preseason All-SEC choices Chris Warren and Terrico White, the Rebels are a perimeter oriented team averaging nearly 85 points a contest. White was named to the preseason watch lists for the Wooden and Naismith Awards. Warren, who was named to the all-tournament team in Puerto Rico, leads the way with 17.6 points a game with White at 17.6. Post player Murphy Holloway averages 14 points and a team-best 8.4 rebounds, while Eniel Polynice is scoring 10.8 a game with 4.2 assists and three steals.
The meeting is the first all-time between the sides.
