The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball team will take to the court at the Dugan Wellness Center against Incarnate Word Saturday at 3 p.m. in a free exhibition.

The Islanders will be going against an outside opponent for the first time as they take on the Cardinals. Last Saturday, A&M-Corpus Christi held an intra-squad scrimmage with the Blue team winning at the buzzer on a three-point bucket by Filip Toncinic.

"It is a great opportunity for the fans and the student body to come see us play and see what the team will be like," said Islander head coach Perry Clark. "We're gonna give everybody a chance to play and those who are in attendance will get an inside look at the development of this year's team. It will be both fun and educational."

A&M-Corpus Christi is coming off an 18-15 season a year ago reaching the semifinals of the Southland Conference Tournament. They return all five starters including Kevin Palmer. Last season, Palmer led all Southland players in scoring with 18.2 points in all games and raised that mark to 19.2 in league-only contests earning newcomer of the year.

The Cardinals won the Heartland Conference title a season ago advancing to the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Tournament. They are ranked 25th in the nation in the Division II Bulletin - a national publication - and also received votes in the NABC Division II Top 25 rankings. UIW is led by Pierce Caldwell who was last season's MVP in the Heartland and has been named a preseason All-America by several publications. He averaged 15.8 points a game.

"Basically, I want to see how we execute things," said Clark. "We have a lot of new stuff that we are implementing so how we execute our offense. I also want to see how we play together."

The Islanders open the regular season Nov. 13-15 at the Duel in the Desert in Lubbock hosted by Texas Tech. They will open against Craig Robinson.
