Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi men's basketball associate head coach Billy Garrett tendered his resignation on Wednesday afternoon to accept a position as an assistant coach at DePaul University in Chicago. The Blue Demons are a member of the Big East Conference.
"I am very disappointed to lose a coach the caliber of Billy, but wish him continued success," said Islander head coach Perry Clark. "He is not only a quality coach but a tremendous friend as well.
"I know it was a very difficult decision for him and he leaves the program in good shape. I will look to bring in someone who can keep us moving in the same direction."
Garrett recently completed his second season with the Islanders serving as the program's recruiting coordinator. He helped the Islanders climb back into the Southland Conference tournament this past season as a fourth seed.
Garrett came to the Island University after spending a season under Steve Alford at Iowa. Prior to joining the Hawkeyes, he was an assistant for five seasons at Seton Hall reaching the NCAA Tournament twice after one year at Siena.
Before entering the collegiate ranks as a coach, Garrett served as athletic director, boys' basketball coach and head track and field coach at Providence St. Mel High School in Chicago from 1994 to 2000.
