The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball team closes out 2008 on New Year's Eve day against SMU at Moody Coliseum at 2 p.m. on Wednesday. The game will be aired live on ESPN 1230 KSIX.

The game is the first for the Islanders since Kevin Palmer sent A&M-Corpus Christi past Georgia with a three-point basket at the buzzer on Dec. 22 for an 80-79 victory. With the win, the Islanders are now 6-6 on the season and earned their first victory on an opponent's home floor this season.

Following Wednesday's game, TAMUCC has two remaining non-conference games with games at Florida State on Jan. 3 and Houston on Jan. 6.

Palmer, who averages a team-high 15.3 points a game, had a career-night against Georgia and earned Southland Conference Player of the Week honors for the second time this season. The game-winning basket gave him a career-high 31 points, which is the most since Chris Daniels had 34 versus Central Arkansas during the 2006-07 season. Palmer also finished with a school-record seven steals has 36 steals this season. The prior mark was six.

Palmer is joined in double-digits by Justin Reynolds. Reynolds is averaging 10.3 points and is second in rebounding with five a game. Demond Watt leads the team with 6.0 boards per contest and is third with nine points.

For SMU, the meeting is the second-straight versus a Southland Conference opponent. The Mustangs fell 80-75 to the Islanders' league rival dropping to 3-7 on the season including a 3-3 mark at home.

Paul McCoy and Derek Williams lead SMU in points. McCoy is scoring 13.3 a contest and Williams 11.6. Center Bamba Fall leads the team with 7.3 boards and has 29 blocks.
