Texas A&M-Corpus Christi basketball fans got their first look at this year's men's and women's basketball teams on Saturday evening at the annual Islander Invasion with the white team coming out on top of both intra-squad scrimmages. Antonio Topps took top honors in the annual Battle of the Sexes Three-Point Shooting Contest.

In the men's scrimmage, the Islander white team won 32-22 led by the duo of Horace Bonds and Justin Reynolds. The sophomore tandem combined for 22 of the White team's total. Newcomer Kevin Palmer tried to keep the Blue team close with eight points.

"The guys had a lot of fun out there and enjoyed getting to play in front of the crowd," said Islander men's coach Perry Clark. "We went out to have fun and entertain the crowd and get some excitement."

In the women's clash, Lauren Smith led the way with seven points and Sarah Davidson and Nyesha Adams each netted six to lead their team to a 22-15 win. JUCO transfer Louvinia Robinson led the blue team with seven points.

"This was a good chance for the public to come out and see the team," said women's coach Robert Robinson. "The kids were excited for the opportunity to do something more than practice. We will be ready to work tomorrow but it was good for the kids to have some fun as we get ready to start the season."

In the three-point shooting contest, Antonio Topps led the men to the win downing Deziree Green 8-6. Topps had nine points in the preliminaries, while Green led all participants in opening with 10. Coombs tied Topps in the opening round with nine, while Tim Green had six. Lauren Smith finished with nine for the women and Shaye Montgomery six.
