CORPUS CHRISTI – For the second straight year the Texas A&M - Corpus Christi Islanders Dance Team is headed to Daytona Beach, Fla. to compete in the 2014 National Dance Alliance (NDA) Collegiate National Championships. The squad is set to compete in the preliminary round of the Dance Open Division I on Thursday, April 10, at 2:07 p.m. EDT in the Peabody Auditorium.
The Islanders will be performing their high-energy contemporary jazz routine that features choreography that the Islanders say is outside of their comfort zone and nothing like they have performed before. The "take over" themed routine will feature 16 of the Islanders.
"This is a theme that I have thrown around for a couple of years now," Head Coach Melanie Lowry said. "With the help of UDA staff member Stephanie Raciak, I feel like this team has what it takes to nail this routine. This choreography is out of their comfort zone, but it's an exciting routine that will leave everyone gasping."
This is the largest championship in the world for collegiate dance teams. The finals will be held on Friday, April 11, and fans have the opportunity to watch the live stream HERE.
