Top Moment #10: Dance Places 11th at NDA Collegiate Championships
The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi Islanders Dance Team and the reigning Division I American Dance/Drill Team Collegiate Champions carried over their momentum into the 2013 season and qualified for the National Dance Alliance Collegiate National Championships in Daytona Beach, Fla. on April 10-14. The Islanders placed 11th out of the 21 teams in the Division I Open at the event, which is the largest championship in the world for collegiate cheer and dance. It marked the first year the Islanders qualified for the championships.
On the opening day, the Islanders performed their sassy jazz routine in the preliminary round and received a score of 8.945 to place eighth and advance to the finals.
The Islanders competed against UT Arlington, Marist College, American University, Stephen F. Austin, Southern Illinois University, Charlotte 49ers, Wright State University, University of Illinois at Chicago, University of New Hampshire, Villanova, Xavier, Georgia Southern University, University of South Dakota, South Dakota State, Bryant, Illinois State, Idaho State, Utah Valley, Wichita State and Sam Houston State who won the division for the second consecutive year.
