CORPUS CHRISTI – The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi dance team will head to Denton, Texas, this weekend to compete in the American Dance/Drill Team Collegiate Nationals, hosted by the University of North Texas. The Islanders, who finished just one point behind Northwestern State a year ago, will be looking for their first national title at the event.
"This is what our dance team has worked so hard for all year," Head Cheer and Dance Coach Melanie Lowry said. "We really believe that we have a team and a routine that will give us a great chance at the title. We can't wait for Saturday to show the rest of the country what we've got."
The Islanders showed off their dance routine to members of the public on Wednesday night, as the university and Corpus Christi communities sent them off with a strong turnout. The team will be performing a sassy jazz routine to a remix of Tom Jones' hit song, "She's a Lady." Irene Cornejo, a native of La Joya, Texas, will be performing a solo work on Wednesday as well.
Saturday's event will be streamed live starting at 1:20, and is available by clicking here. The Islanders will take the stage at approximately 2:08 p.m.
