CORPUS CHRISTI – The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi dance team will be previewing its American Dance/Drill Team College Nationals dance routine on Wednesday night, March 21, at 8 p.m. in Moody Fieldhouse on the campus of Texas A&M – Corpus Christi. The event, which will last approximately 30 minutes, is free and open to the public.
"We would love to have the community come out and cheer on our team as we perform our routine publicly for the final time before we head to Nationals," Head Cheer and Dance Coach Melanie Lowry said. "Our dancers have worked so hard on this routine, and they get really pumped up when they get to perform in front of big crowds. Wednesday's performance will be a great way for Corpus Christi to send us off to Denton. It should be a fun event for our team and for spectators alike."
The Islanders will be performing a sassy jazz routine to a remix of Tom Jones' hit song, "She's a Lady." The team has been preparing for their routine since the beginning of the school year, with all of their hard work culminating with their performance at Nationals. Irene Cornejo, a native of La Joya, Texas, will be performing a solo work on Wednesday as well.
The team (and Cornejo individually) will be competing at the ADTS College Nationals at the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas, on Saturday, March 24, at 2 p.m. Last year, the Islanders finished as runner-up in the Division I category, just one point from taking first place.
