CORPUS CHRISTI – The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi baseball team will play its first midweek game of the season, as it travels to Austin on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. meeting with Texas. The game will be televised on the Longhorn Network.

The Islanders (3-1) are scheduled to send Southland Preseason First Team All-Conference pitcher Trevor Belicek out to the mound for his first start of the season. Belicek comes off the 2013 campaign in which he recorded an ERA of 3.12, to go along with a team-high nine wins and just two losses.

The lefty was also tabbed as the preseason pitcher of the year for the Southland by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.

The Longhorns will give freshman Blake Goins the first start of his career. He has made one appearance so far this season, only facing one batter and allowing him to reach on a hit by pitch.

A&M – Corpus Christi is coming off a series in which it split the four games over the weekend at Texas-Pan American. The Longhorns also took two of four in their first series, dropping the first two games at California before bouncing back to take the next two.

Against the Broncs, the Islanders were paced offensively by newcomer Tyler Ware, who produced in the middle of the lineup in his first games, reaching base 12 times in the four-game series.

Ware went 6-of-10 from the plate with one double, one triple and one RBI. The other half of the times he reached came on free passes with two walks and four hit by pitches. The junior made it around the diamond several times, with five runs scored.

Driving him in on multiple occasions was Kyle Danford, who led the team with five RBIs, going 8-of-14 from the dish against UTPA. He also showed off his wheels, going a perfect 3-for-3 on stolen bases.

The top batter for Texas against the Golden Bears was Mark Payton, as he hit at a .529 clip to collect four RBIs with two of them coming off a home run in the team's first win of 2014.

The pitching was outstanding in the Longhorns' two wins, combining to allow just two runs in the victories.
