Islanders Incoming Class Earns Recognition From Baseball America

CORPUS CHRISTI – Once again, the Texas A&M – Corpus Christi baseball team has earned national recognition with this year's recruiting class. Baseball America's Aaron Fitt added the Islanders to his list of top classes in the Lower Central Region of the Baseball America recruiting map.

"I think everybody on this staff did an outstanding job to get the right guys in here," head coach Scott Malone said. "It's great to get the recognition, but it's not a surprise anymore. It used to be 'Hey, we're on that list.' It's not anymore. We're known as one the better and more talented teams in the Southland, and it tells you the job coach Ramirez did during his time here in building this roster, and obviously, coach Gips is continuing that."

The Islanders were one of just three Southland Conference schools to garner this attention, as Northwestern State and Nicholls State also made the list.

A&M – Corpus Christi brings in a host of new talent, as the fall roster features 23 newcomers from across the country. This strong class of players, along with the return of several key components that helped the Islanders to a second-place finish in the conference last season, should help propel the team to another strong year.

"When you look at that list and see a school like Rice and see us beside a team like that, I think it reiterates what we tell recruits and high school coaches, which is the level of play that we are trying to achieve is very high.

"We're not just trying to be a good mid-major, we're trying to beat Texas on the Longhorn Network on a Tuesday night. We're trying to beat teams like Rice, Houston or TCU. We tell recruits all the time that if you can't help us beat the most talented programs in the state then you can't help us."

Baseball America's list makes mention of the new bats the Islanders picked up, including three transfers, Zach Gibson, Frankie Salas and Tyler Ware. It also highlights the addition of pitcher Gage Curry.
