Stafford Brantley Named Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-District 7 First Team

Texas A&M – Corpus Christi Baseball senior Stafford Brantley was named to the Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-District 7 First Team on Friday afternoon, becoming the first Islander in three years to earn the academic honor.

In the classroom, Brantley holds a 3.9 GPA in health sciences at the University and is scheduled to graduate in May. In addition to his academic efforts, he has also been involved in the community service efforts of the Islanders baseball team, helping out with various endeavors, including the Salvation Army Miracle Tree program and the Miracle League of Corpus Christi.

Brantley has helped lead the Islanders to a tie for second place with two weekends to go, the latest the team has been in contention for the Southland Conference title in school history. He is hitting .294 in conference, and has four stolen bases in 33 starts while playing in all but three games for the Islanders. He has a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage this year, and has four assists from the outfield.

Brantley becomes the first Islander to be named to the CoSIDA Acadmic All-District teams since Brycen Bell was second team in 2009. The last time an Islander was first team was when Paul Saville received the honor in 2008. In total, he is the seventh Islander to receive CoSIDA recognition, and the fifth first team member.

Brantley and the rest of the Islanders baseball team will be in action this weekend against Lamar in the final home series of the year. Additionally, Brantley and nine other seniors will be recognized before the Sunday finale against the Cardinals with Senior Day festivities.
