FRISCO, Texas – Texas A&M – Corpus Christi Baseball senior Trevor Foss was named the Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced on Monday afternoon. Tyler Boss of Oral Roberts was named the Hitter of the Week, with both honors being voted on by league sports information directors.
Foss set the tone for the Islanders' sweep of McNeese State this past weekend with his Friday night performance. The senior tossed his second complete-game shutout of the season, going 9.0 innings while allowing just three hits and no walks, striking out 10 Cowboy batters. Foss allowed just five balls the entire night to leave the infield as he was in complete control in the shutout victory.
He totaled 10 innings of shutout baseball for the week, pitching a scoreless inning with a strikeout against Texas – Pan American on his scheduled bullpen day. The game against McNeese State was his third double-digit strikeout game of the season.
It is the second time he earned the award this year, receiving his first after opening weekend when he struck out 15 UTPA batters in his other complete-game shutout.
The three-game sweep of McNeese State helped the Islanders clinch a spot in the Southland Conference Tournament with six games to go, including the final three home games of the year next weekend.
The Islanders will recognize Foss and the nine other seniors this weekend when the team plays host to Lamar at 6 p.m. on Friday, 4 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday. The Sunday game will be Senior Day for Foss, Stafford Brantley, Eric Weiss, Adam Hoelscher, Tim Keller, Jonathan Gonzales, Franco Pace, Tim Beard, Brad Porras and Seth Horton.
