The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi Baseball team will be back in action at Chapman Field this weekend, with a three-game series against McNeese State on tap with just nine games left in the regular season.
The games are scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday, 5 p.m. Saturday and a 1 p.m. finale on Sunday.
The Islanders (25-20, 10-8 Southland) are fighting to stay in the race for the Southland Conference Championship, sitting just two games behind first place Lamar and Sam Houston State with three series' left to go. McNeese State (20-22, 7-11) is currently in the eighth and final spot for the Southland Conference Tournament, just one game ahead of Nicholls State for a place in the tourney.
For the Islanders, Trevor Foss will go on Friday, with Trevor Belicek following on Saturday, but a new face in the weekend rotation will be there on Sunday, with freshman O'Shea Dumes getting the first conference start of his career. They Islanders will face Blake Ware on Friday, Bryce Kingsley on Saturday and Jason Gibson on Sunday.
Eric Weiss continues to lead the team on the offensive end, hitting a team high .331, but Cody Stephens is hot on his heels after the last two weeks, raising his batting average to .326 on the year. Jonathan Gonzales is at .316, Zach Taylor at .312 and Brad Porras at .307 to round out the Islanders above the .300 mark on the season. Gonzales leads in RBI with 35, just one ahead of Weiss' 34 this year.
For the Cowboys, Michael Sullivan leads the way with a .322 batting average, followed by Jackson Gooch and Andrew Guillotte both at .306 on the season. Gooch leads the team with 28 RBI, while Sullivan and Matt Williams are tied for second at 21 apiece.
