The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi Baseball team will kick off a three-game Southland Conference road series on Friday night, taking on the Nicholls Colonels in a 6:30 p.m. game at Ray E. Didier Field in Thibodaux, La. The teams will play at 2 p.m. on Saturday, and close out the series on Sunday at 1 p.m.
The team faced the Corpus Christi Hooks on Wednesday in the first ever meeting between the two teams. Texas A&M – Corpus Christi lost a 7-3 final in the exhibition game, while their previously schedule contest against Texas on Tuesday was cancelled due to weather conditions.
The Islanders (16-12, 3-3 Southland) will have a road Southland Conference series for the second time in three weeks, with the team starting league play at Sam Houston State before returning home for a series against Oral Roberts last weekend. Nicholls (15-15, 1-5 Southland) will be home for the second time in three weeks when they host the Islanders.
Eric Weiss and his .340 batting average lead the Islanders offense, with the senior also driving in 22 runs for second place on the team. Jonathan Gonzales leads with 27 RBI, and is second in average at .333 on the season. Zach Taylor has a .307 batting average to round out the trio of Islanders above .300 on the year.
For the Colonels, Matt Richard and Keith Cormier are tied for the team lead with a .333 batting average, while Tyler Duplantis has a .313 average and Philip Lyons has a .310 average to round out the batters above .300 on the year. Cody Dufrene leads the team with 23 RBI while Cormier is right behind at 22.
The starting rotation for Nicholls is schedule to be Mike Suk on Friday, Kory Delange on Saturday and Taylor Byrd on Sunday.
