Islanders Host Incarnate Word in Final Game of Opening Home Stand

The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi Baseball team will host the final game of a season-opening 13-game home stand on Wednesday evening, taking on future Southland Conference member Incarnate Word in a midweek contest. First pitch is schedule for 6:30 p.m. at Chapman Field.

All fans without a valid Texas A&M – Corpus Christi parking pass or a disabled parking tag are required to park in the Bayside Parking Garage located on campus.

The Islanders (7-5) will send Tim Keller (1-1, 5.40 ERA) to the mound for the start against the Cardinals. UIW (13-2) is currently ranked No. 14 in Division II, and have started the season off quickly, picking up series wins in all four weekends played so far this season.

Texas A&M – Corpus Christi is coming off of four wins last week, taking a midweek contest against Texas State at Chapman Field, and then sweeping Dallas Baptist in dramatic fashion during the weekend, getting a walk-off home run by Kyle Danford to send the home team to an 11-10 win over the Patriots on Sunday.

Danford has been on a tear lately, hitting .538 with six RBI last week, with the sophomore hitting .409 on the season. Zach Taylor (.355), Brad Porras (.348), Jordan Lee (.327) and Eric Weiss (.318) are all hitting above .300 as the Islanders have a .278 team batting average after 12 games. Cody Stephens leads the way on the base paths with six of the Islanders 17 steals this year, while Weiss is tops in RBI with nine.

For the Cardinals, John Zule is leading the way with a .462 batting average, with Zule coming off of a week in which he was named the Lone Star Conference Hitter of the Week. UIW has 10 players hitting above .300 on the year, and have posted a .338 team batting average through 15 games.

The game against Incarnate Word will end the 13-game home stand for the Islanders, with a three-game set against Houston schedule for this weekend at Cougar Field.
