The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi Baseball team will get another tough test this weekend when it hosts the perennial NCAA participant Dallas Baptist Patriots in a three-game, non-conference series. The teams will play at 6:30 p.m. on Friday night before playing a pair of 1 p.m. games on Saturday and Sunday.
The Islanders (4-5) are coming off of a win over Texas State in a non-conference game on Tuesday, earning a 7-3 final over the former Southland Conference opponent. The Patriots (4-4) lost a midweek game at home against TCU.
The starting rotation is schedule to be Trevor Foss (1-1, 1.12 ERA) on Friday, Tyler Schnuriger (0-1, 10.29 ERA) on Saturday and Adam Hoelscher (1-1, 3.48 ERA) on Sunday in the finale. The Patriots starters will be Jake Johansen (1-1, 3.38 ERA), Cy Sneed (1-0, 3.48 ERA), and Cory Taylor (0-1, 2.00 ERA).
Brad Porras leads the Islanders with a .333 batting average while driving in three runs this season. Eris Weiss is close behind at .323 with seven RBI, and Jordan Lee has picked up where he left off at the end of his freshman season with a .313 average on the year.
DBU is hitting .305 as a team, with Michael Miller topping the team with a .414 batting average. Duncan McAlpine is hitting at a .345 clip, Mike Wesolowski is at .333 and RJ Talamantes is hitting .304 this season.
The Patriots have scored 73 runs this season, compared to 38 for the Islanders. Texas A&M – Corpus Christi has allowed 52 runs as a pitching staff, while DBU has given up 44 on the year.
The Islanders will be looking to bounce back from the last time the two teams faced off during the 2012 season. The Patriots earned a sweep of Texas A&M – Corpus Christi last year in Dallas during pre-conference action.
