Monday night was a big one for the Texas A&M – Corpus Christi Baseball team as players were selected for the upcoming fall world series this Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Jonathan Gonzales, Trevor Foss and Stafford Brantley picked the Blue Team side, while Adam Hoelscher, Eric Weiss and Jordan Lee selected players for the Green Team as the players gathered for the event.

The first overall pick in the draft went to Blue, with incoming catcher Russell Vaughan anchoring the draft for Gonzales, Foss and Brantley. The Green Team earned next two picks by virtue of draft rules and wasted no time shoring up the pitching staff, taking Jacob Dorris and Franco Pace with the second and third selections of the night.

In all, the Green Team focused heavily on pitching early on, taking 10 pitchers in its  first 16 picks, while the Blue Team picked position players in the first three selections and with six of the first 10 on the night.

In addition to players, the two teams selected student managers as well. The Blue Team picked a pair in Daniel Linan and Phil Dussliere, while the Green Team opted for Wallace Green.

The teams will face off starting on Thursday afternoon, with game one set for a 3:30 p.m. start at Chapman Field. The Friday affair will start at 5:30 p.m. in the evening, while the third and final game to wrap up the series is set for 11:00 a.m. on Saturday morning.

The three-game series will mark the completion of fall practice as the Islanders prepare for the upcoming 2013 season. Practice will resume in the spring on Jan. 25, with the start of the season falling on Feb. 15 against Texas – Pan American at Chapman Field.
