CORPUS CHRISTI – It was Senior Day for the Texas A&M – Corpus Christi Baseball team, and the group did not disappoint, with the trio of Brad Porras, Jonathan Gonzales and Eric Weiss combining for nine hits and eight RBI as the team won a wild, come-from-behind victory by a 17-15 margin over the Lamar Cardinals. The win gave the Islanders a series victory over the Cardinals and second place heading into the final weekend of the regular season.

The team was paced by a perfect 6-for-6 night and eight RBI by Jonathan Gonzales, tying school records for hits in a game during the series opener. It was also the most runs of the Scott Malone era. The native of Janesville, Wisc. was named a Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper on Monday, and he followed it up with the Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week honor on Tuesday afternoon.

Texas A&M – Corpus Christi slugger Jonathan Gonzales was named Preseason Second Team All-Southland at designated hitter on Wednesday, earning the honor after being selected to the second team at the conclusion of last season. A year ago, Gonzales .299 with nine home runs and five doubles while playing through an elbow injury. Gonzales was the only Islanders selection in the group of 24 players.
