Islanders Travel to UT Arlington For Final Regular Season Series
The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi baseball team will travel north to Arlington for the final weekend of the regular season looking to secure a spot in the upcoming Southland Conference Tournament. They will take on the UT Arlington Mavericks in a crucial Southland Conference series at Clay Gould Ballpark.
The Islanders are 23-28 on the season, and sit at 14-16 in Southland Conference games. The Mavs are 29-23 overall, 16-14 in league play. While there are many scenarios to clinch a spot in the tournament, the most direct one is for the team to win the series against UTA on the road.
It will be no easy task, as the Mavs are 19-7 at home, including a 3-0 win over the Islanders in a non-conference game earlier this season. The Islanders are playing much better as of late, winning their last two Southland Conference series and going 8-4 over the last 12 games heading into the final three games.
Taking the ball for Texas A&M – Corpus Christi in the first game will be Daniel Minor. The Islanders No. 1 starter will try to set the tone for in the series opener, while Trevor Foss will get the Friday night start. The starter for the final game is TBA.
Offensively, the Islanders have improved their batting average to .259 over the last 18 games. Jordan Lee and his .336 batting average lead the team, while Jonathan Gonzales is hitting .302 on the year. Gonzales also has a team-high 28 RBI and eight home runs this season. Stafford Brantley is second with three home runs, hitting one each of the last two series as the team has gone 4-2 against Southland opponents.
UTA is led in hitting by Ryan Walker with a .358 batting average, while Preston Morrow is at .333 and Preston Beck is batting .323 on the year. Beck leads the Southland Conference with nine home runs and 52 RBI, while Walker is second on the team with 27 RBI.
