Islanders Travel to Face Red-Hot #6 Baylor Bears in Waco
The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi baseball team will face the hottest team in the nation on Tuesday and Wednesday when they travel to Waco for a midweek series against the #6 Baylor Bears. Baylor has won 19-straight games coming into the Tuesday night game.
The Islanders won their last two games against Northwestern State last weekend, and are now 15-20 on the year. The Bears come into the week with a record of 30-7, and having won the last 19 times they stepped on the field.
Trying to stop the streak, Texas A&M – Corpus Christi will send freshman Trevor Belicek to the mound on Tuesday, getting the start against Austin Stone.
Belicek has no record on the year, and is at a 5.40 ERA in four relief appearances. The last time he came into a game, he pitched a 1-2-3 inning against #23 Texas, including two strikeouts of the Longhorns. In total, Belicek has three strikeouts and two walks in 3.1 innings.
Stone is 1-0 on the season, and has a 4.26 ERA. He has appeared in seven games this season, starting three of them. He has a total of 12.2 innings pitched, with six strikeouts and seven walks.
Getting the start on Wednesday for the Islanders will be another freshman, Jacob Dorris. This year, Dorris has pitched a total of 6.1 innings, striking out eight while walking five, and sits at a 7.11 ERA with a 0-1 record.
Offensively, Jordan Lee leads the team with a .302 average. Jonathan Gonzales is second on the team with .273 mark and a team-high five home runs. He is second on the team with 14 RBI, while Eric Weiss leads at 15 on the year.
The all-time series is at 5-0 in favor of Baylor, with all meetings coming in Waco.
