Baseball Travels to Austin For Tuesday Game Against #23 Longhorns

The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi baseball team will face a big test on Tuesday in a midweek game against the No. 23 Texas Longhorns at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. The game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. first pitch with Carter Blackburn and Greg Swindell on the call for the Longhorn Network, which will televise the game.

The Islanders are 13-18 on the year, while Texas comes into the contest with a 17-12 record this season. Jake Dziubczynski (0-2, 4.58 ERA) will start for Texas A&M – Corpus Christi, while Dillon Peters (1-0, 3.45 ERA) will be on the hill for the Longhorns.

The two teams met twice last year, with the visiting team coming away with the victory on both occasions. The Islanders beat Texas by an 8-7 in Austin on Feb. 22, at Disch-Falk. The Longhorns got revenge later in the season on April 5, at Whataburger Field, defeating Texas A&M – Corpus Christi by an 8-1 final in Corpus Christi. The win for the Islanders was just the second in program history, with the other coming over the #1 Longhorns to open the 2003 season.

Freshman Jordan Lee leads the team with a .277 batting average, while Eric Weiss has a team-high 14 RBI for the Islanders. Senior Drew Vest is second on the team with a .268 average on the season. Jonathan Gonzales leads the team with five home runs on the year.

The leading hitter for Texas has a familiar name, as Erich Weiss holds a .375 average and has four homers to lead the Longhorns. Jonathan Walsh (.350), Alex Silver (.306) and Mark Payton (.304) also hit above .300 for Texas. Marlow Brooks has a team-high 22 RBI on the season.

The game will be available on Grande Communications channels 33 and 833 in the Corpus Christi area. Fans around the state and country can find out if LHN is available on their carrier by visiting
