The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi baseball team will complete their eight-game road trip this weekend with a three-game series in Thibodaux, La. against the Nicholls Colonels. The teams are set for a 6:30 p.m. game on Friday, 2 p.m. on Saturday and a 1 p.m. finale on Sunday.
The Islanders are 11-14 on the year, and sit at 4-5 in Southland Conference play. The Colonels come into the series with a 14-11 record, and are also 4-5 in league games. The last time the two teams met, Texas A&M – Corpus Christi swept Nicholls in Thibodaux during the 2011 season.
Drew Vest leads the team with a .290 average, while Eric Weiss (.277) and Jordan Lee (.276) are second and third on the team. Weiss leads the team with 13 RBI, while Kyle Danford has 12 and Jonathan Gonzales is also in double digits with 10 on the year.
Matt Danton will get his first weekend start of the year on Friday night against the Colonels. Danton is currently 1-0 with a 2.16 ERA. Adam Hoelscher (5-1, 3.41 ERA) will slide into the Saturday spot in the rotation, while Daniel Minor (4-1, 1.31 ERA) will occupy his normal Sunday turn in the rotation.
Michael LeGrange and his .350 batting average lead Nicholls offensively, while Philip Lyons is hitting .319 and Jeremy Hill is at an even .300 on the year. Lyons has a team-high 19 RBI, LeGrange has a total of 16 and Hill is at 14 this season.
Friday starter Seth Webster is 4-2 with a 3.32 ERA to lead the Colonels pitching staff. Patrick Shreve will get the nod Saturday while Mike Wisecarver is set to start Sunday. Shreve is 2-4 with a 3.86 ERA, while Wisecarver is 0-3 with a 3.82 ERA.
