Islanders Return Home to Host UTSA in Three-Game Southland Conference Series
The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi baseball team will be spending the weekend at home this time, with a three-game Southland Conference series against UTSA set for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The series will be the league opener for both teams as they meet at Chapman Field. The times of the games are set for 6:30 p.m. on Friday, 3 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
The Islanders are 7-7 on the season after a loss against #4 Rice on Wednesday night in Houston. UTSA sits at 8-4 overall after going 2-1 in their home tournament last weekend.
Texas A&M – Corpus Christi will be looking to hold serve on its home field to open up Southland Conference play against a team that gave them troubles last season. The two teams met five times a year ago, with UTSA going 4-1 in those contests. The Islanders were able to get the one that mattered the most, however, taking a 2-1 win over the Roadrunners to eliminate them from the Southland Conference Tournament.
On the mound for the Islanders this Friday night will be Adam Hoelscher, who is 3-1 on the season with a 4.50 ERA. He picked up his third win of the year on Tuesday night, getting a win in relief against Houston – Victoria. He will face Casey Selsor of UTSA, a lefty that sports a 3-0 record and 2.84 ERA this year. Selsor earned a win over Kansas in the UTSA tournament last Friday night.
Offensively, Eric Weiss continues to lead the Islanders with a .348 batting average, as well as being second on the team with seven RBI. Kyle Danford owns the team lead in RBI with nine while hitting .250 at the plate.
Riley Good is hitting .510 to lead UTSA in batting average, along with seven RBI. Daniel Rockett has a team-high 14 RBI while hitting .292 for the Roadrunners and Ryan Dalton is second on the team with 11 runs batted in.
