Team Navy Claims Fall World Series with 4-2 Victory Over Team White
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi Baseball Team wrapped up the fall season on Tuesday afternoon with the final game of the annual Navy/White Fall World Series at Chapman Field.
Team Navy picked up the win by a 4-2 score and clinched the series by a 2-1 margin.
Daniel Minor had a strong performance on the mound for the Navy, striking out nine batters in five innings while giving up just one run on one hit to pickup the win.
The Navy opened the scoring in the bottom half of the first as Stafford Brantley singled and moved to third on an error by the shortstop. An RBI groundout by Brad Porras scored the first run, followed by an RBI single
Eric Weiss got Team White on the board in the top of the third with a solo homerun down the left field line to make it a 3-1 ballgame.
Logan Nottebrok closed the gap to 3-2 in the top of the eighth with a leadoff homer to left field.
Navy added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth as Dan Sciantarelli singled, moved to second on a catcher's interference and came home to score on an error on a failed pickoff attempt to make it 4-2.
Philly Garcia picked up his second save of the series after pitching a scoreless ninth inning.
