Near the end of his first season at Texas A&M – Corpus Christi, pitcher Jacob Dorris talked to baseball head coach Scott Malone and pitching coach Marty Smith about his upcoming experience in the Northwoods League (NWL) on the La Crosse Loggers. The coaches told him to take the last couple of weeks of the season off and get ready to pitch in one of the toughest collegiate leagues in the nation.

Texas A&M – Corpus Christi Baseball head coach Scott Malone was one of the top players in TCU Horned Frogs Baseball history during his career. He will be recognized for his achievements this fall with his induction into the 44th class of the TCU Letterman’s Association Hall of Fame, it was announced recently.

FRISCO, Texas – The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi athletic department continued its academic rise, placing 72 student-athletes on the Southland Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll for the semester, it was announced on Tuesday. Included in that total were 14 Islanders who earned a 4.0 GPA during the spring.

Daniel Minor Named ABCA First Team All-South Central Region
Former Texas A&M – Corpus Christi pitcher Daniel Minor has been named First Team All-South Central Region, being voted to the team by the American Baseball Coaches Association. Texas A&M – Corpus Christi right-handed pitcher Daniel Minor became the highest pick in Islanders Baseball history on Tuesday when he was taken with the first pick of the ninth round, 279th overall, by the Houston Astros in the 2012 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi baseball season came to an end here on Friday morning, with the Islanders falling by a 4-3 final to the No. 1 seed Sam Houston Bearkats in an elimination game. The Bearkats won on a walk-off home run to advance in the Southland Conference Baseball Tournament.

Including the game Tuesday, the Longhorns were hitting nearly .400 as a team over the last two games, and .327 the previous 15 games coming into the night.

CORPUS CHRISTI – In 26 innings of the Texas A&M – Corpus Christi baseball team’s three-game Southland Conference series against Texas State, the Islanders were able to muster a total of just two runs. Luckily they played 27, as Santiago Ruiz finished off the ninth-inning rally with a single to plate Kyle Danford and Jeramie Marek, and give his team a dramatic 4-3 win over the Bobcats on Saturday afternoon.

Philip Garcia, better know as Philly among his teammates and coaches, is a senior pitcher for the Texas A&M – Corpus Christi baseball team.
