THE FIRST PITCH
The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi baseball team will head south on
Tuesday for a doubleheader with Texas - Pan American, starting at 3
p.m. The Islanders enter the showdown with an 8-5 record after
suffering a three-game sweep at the hands of Southland Conference
favorite Texas State in Corpus Christi. Trey
Hernandez hit a home run and drove in five in the weekend
series.
Texas - Pan American enters the double dip with a 5-2 record after losing two midweek games at Texas A&M on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Broncs had the weekend off and will have their full complement of pitching heading into the twinbill against the Islanders. Stuart Macinnes leads UTPA with a .409 average on the season.
THE ALL-TIME SERIES
The Islanders and Broncs have faced off 54 times, splitting the
all-time series 27-27. In Scott
Malone's tenure, the Islanders have a 10-4 record against UTPA,
including wins of 17-1 and 17-2 in Corpus Christi last year. Ian
Campbell, who will start the first game Tuesday, got the win in
game one, while Adam
Hoelscher, brother of game two starter Sean
Hoelscher, picked up the victory in the second affair. The
Islanders have won four straight against their closest geographical
Division I rival.
