2011 (FRESHMAN): Had a stellar debut season on the mound, going 4-3 with a 4.96 ERA … struck out 98 batters in 85 1/3 innings, the third highest total in Islanders history and the highest by a freshman in school lore … had a .271 batting average against in 17 appearances and 15 starts … made Islanders debut against MVSU (2/19), tossing 1 2/3 shutout innings for the win … made first career start at Texas (2/22), striking out seven Longhorns in improving to 2-0 … punched out eight in five innings against Connecticut (2/27) … had nine strikeouts in 5 2/3 frames against Texas State (3/5) … punched out seven in seven innings in a no-decision against Nicholls (3/20) … went a career-high eight frames against McNeese State (3/27) … struck out six over 6 2/3 innings of one-run ball at Lamar (4/9) … punched out nine in 5 2/3 at Southeastern (4/22) … struck out nine in six innings against UCA (4/29) … got the win in the opener with UT Arlington (5/6) … was stellar in a no-decision against UTSA at the Southland Conference Tournament (5/27), striking out nine and scattering eight hits in eight innings.

 

2010: Attended Texas A&M – Corpus Christi but did not take part in team activities.

 

HIGH SCHOOL: Played four seasons for Corky Gallegos at Moody … earned all-state and Preseason All-America recognition his senior year … was also named All-South Texas Player of the Year … set a school record by going 17-1 on the mound … also posted a 1.18 ERA … was no slouch at the plate, either, hitting .478 with seven home runs … went 11-0 on the bump as a junior … also played three years of football, earning all-state recognition as a punter and all-district laurels at safety.

PERSONAL: Justin Michael Meza was born on Aug. 26, 1991, in Corpus Christi … son of Debra and Jesse Meza … has two brothers, Jesse and Irseal, and one sister, Jordan … is undecided as to his major.
