DUO SELECTED IN MLB FIRST-YEAR PLAYER DRAFT
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi junior Sean Hoelscher and incoming freshman Roland Botello were each drafted by the Washington Nationals in the 2010 Major League Baseball. Hoelscher was drafted in the 27th round while Botello was chosen in the 34th round.
Hoelscher, the elder brother of fellow Islander Adam, sat out the 2010 season per NCAA rules after transferring from TCU. In two seasons with the Horned Frogs, Hoelscher was 9-5. He was a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American in 2008 after going 7-3 with a 5.08 ERA. The former Calallen standout was 2-2 as a sophomore.
Botello signed with the Islanders this past fall and recently completed his prep career at San Antonio John Jay High School. Botello was a three-time all-district selection entering his senior season and was named All-San Antonio as a sophomore and junior at John Jay High School. He was invited to the Texas Rangers Area Code camp this past summer and played for Team Texas.
It is the second straight season a incoming Islander has been drafted. Last season, Roman Madrid was chosen by the Cleveland Indians in the 44th round. He elected to join the Islanders.
