ISLANDERS SWEPT BY NORTHWESTERN STATE

NATCHITOCHES, La. - The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball team dropped a 13-2 decision Sunday to Northwestern State in the final game of its three-game series with Northwestern State at Brown-Stroud Field.

The Islanders (19-31-1, 9-20-1) scored twice in the first inning, but allowed 10 runs in the bottom of the first to the Demons. Coupled with Nicholls 6-2 win over Texas State on Sunday, the Islanders have been eliminated from contention for the Southland Conference Tournament.

With one out, Jacob Perales singled and scored from first on a double by Trey Hernandez. The RBI was Hernandez's 60th of the season. Weston Montgomery drove in Hernandez with single down the left-field line off Brett Fredieu (3-0).

After Islander starter Roy Ferdin forced a ground out by the first batter in the bottom of the inning, Northwestern erupted. The Demons would score 10 runs on nine hits as 14 players hit in the inning. Adam Roy had a two-run single in the inning followed by a two-run home run by Tyler Baisley. Eric DeBlanc and Oscar Garcia also had two-run hits.

The Demons added three more runs in the fourth.

The Islanders finished the game with four hits - none after the first batter of the second inning. NSU finished with 13 hits with Chase Lyles and Adam Roy each recording three.

The Islanders close out the season at home with Sam Houston State visiting Chapman Field. The first two games of the series will be Thursday and Friday at 2 p.m. with Saturday's finale at 1 p.m.
