CONWAY, Ark. - The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball team out-hit Central Arkansas 12-4 on Friday night at Bear Stadium but stranded 15 on base and committed three errors in suffering a 4-3 loss.

With the loss, the Islanders fall to 18-28 on the season and 8-17 in the Southland Conference. UCA moves to 15-30 and 6-19 in the SLC. The Islanders are now 2-5 in 1-run games in league play. The teams play again tomorrow night at 6:30 p.m.

Jake Liedka took a 3-2 lead into the bottom of the eighth inning and struck out the first batter of the inning. Pinch hitter Clay Washington then singled to right. Running for Washington, Chase Huchingson went to second as Weston Montgomery missed played a ground ball by Michael Pair. Matt Bauer would drive in both Huchingson and Pair with a double down the line in right.

In the top of the ninth, the Islanders would threaten as Chris Vergne led off the inning with a walk. After Omar Garcia went down swinging, Jeremy Pinder was forced out at second as Jacob Perales hit into a fielder's choice. Perales advanced to second on a single by Cory Ege, but was stranded in scoring position as Bobby Buckner flew out to right field to end the game.

Michael Wild earned the win improving to 5-7 on the season. After the Islanders had 11 hits in the first 6-1/3 innings, the Bear reliever allowed one hit in 2-2/3 scoreless innings with three strikeouts.

Liedka suffered the tough-luck loss to fall to 3-2. The senior tossed eight innings for his second complete game scattering four hits and allowing just two earned runs. He struck out six and walked four.

The Islanders led 2-0 lead after two innings. Caleb Marx led off the game with a single and stole second base. He moved to third as Matt Holland fouled out down the line in left. After Trey Hernandez walked, Marx scored on a sacrifice fly by Weston Montgomery.

Jacob Perales' hot streak continued in the top of the second. The junior hit his sixth home run of the season and fourth in the last six games with a shot to right-center field off Bobby Pritchett. Pritchett would load the bases by hitting Holland and walking Hernandez with two away, but the bases were left full of Islanders as Montgomery struck out.

After UCA scored a run on a Tye Throneberry sacrifice fly in the fourth, the Islanders pushed their advantage back to two, 3-1, in the sixth. With two gone, Buckner singled and stole second. Buckner came around to score on a double down the line in right by Marx. Pritchett again loaded the bases as Holland and Hernandez each drew walks, but Montgomery flew out to right.

In the seventh, the Islanders loaded the bases off reliever Evan Cox. With one away, Omar Garcia singled and went to second as Perales walked. Ege loaded the bases with a single. Wild replaced Cox and induced Buckner and Marx to fly out without a run scoring.

The Bears pulled to within 3-2 with a single run in the bottom of the seventh taking advantage of two Islander errors. Drew Sullivan walked to start the inning, stole second and went to third on an errant throw on the steal attempt by Garcia. He scored as Zack Dickson reached on a throwing error by Hernandez.

Ege led the Islanders with three hits, while four others each had two. Marx, Vergne, Perales and Buckner each had a pair of hits. Hernandez walked three times. Dickson finished with two of UCA's four hits.
