HOUSTON - The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball team fell victim to a hot-hitting Rice team falling 23-1 at Reckling Park.
With the loss, the Islanders fall to 13-21 on the season, while Rice moves to 21-14 on the year.
Rice took control early as the first seven hitters reached in the bottom of the first off Islander starter Roy Ferdin. After two runs in the second, the Owls plated eight more runs in the third. The hosts scored three in the fourth and sixth innings. Jeremy Rathjen, Anthony Rendon, and Jimmy Comerota each had three-run home runs and finished with a combined 15 RBI.
The Islanders lone run came in the third when Trey Hernandez drove Caleb Marx with an RBI single. The RBI was the 43rd of the season for Hernandez, while Marx reached safely for the 15th-straight game. A&M-Corpus Christi finished with five hits
The Islanders remain on the road this weekend as they visit Stephen F. Austin for a three-game set in Nacogdoches. The series begins Friday at 3 p.m., with games Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.
