The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball team jumps back into the Southland Conference fray this weekend traveling to McNeese State for a key three-game series at Cowboy Diamond. Friday's game is set for a 6:30 p.m. start with Saturday at 3 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Islanders enter the series 10-11 overall after a pair of tough losses at Texas Tech earlier in the week. They took the first two games against Nicholls last weekend for their first SLC series win of the year. McNeese State lost a pair of 1-run games to Arkansas out of the SEC in mid-week action. The Cowboys are 2-4 in league action and 8-11 overall.

Chris Vergne continues to lead the Islanders and the Southland Conference in hitting in all games with a .408 average. He is second in conference games with a .478 average. Cory Ege, who has a team-best six stolen bases, is hitting .444 in SLC games. Trey Hernandez leads the Southland with 31 RBI, which is two off his total from a season ago, while he is one behind Michael Choice in the home run race with seven.

On the mound, Jake Liedka will start the series, with Roy Ferdin taking the hill on Saturday. Brandon Orr will start on Sunday.

Liedka has impressed in his last two starts against Mississippi State and Nicholls with a 3.21 ERA. He struck out eight in eight innings, while just two runs on two hits versus Bulldogs. Against Nicholls, he permitted three runs on six hits in five innings.

Ferdin has been solid in Southland play permitting only three earned runs in 13 innings. His 2.08 ERA in league play is in the top 10. Orr will make his second start in league play after suffering a tough loss against Nicholls allowing four runs with three earned and a 3.86 ERA.
