ISLANDERS RETURN HOME FOR FIRST OF FOUR BASEBALL GAMES THIS WEEK
The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball team returns to Chapman Field on Tuesday as it hosts Texas-Brownsville at 2 p.m. before participating in the Whataburger College Classic this weekend at Whataburger Field.
The Islanders enter the midweek game 6-4 on the season after going 1-2 over the weekend at Texas State. The Scorpions are 8-14 on the season.
A&M-Corpus Christi continues to shine offensively averaging .330 as a team. Chris Vergne leads the way a .500 average and 15 runs scored, while Omar Garcia is hitting .452. Trey Hernandez leads the team with five home runs and 21 runs batted in and boasts a .390 mark at the plate. Marc Damon is hitting .368 with 12 RBI, with Cory Ege (.333, 10 RBI), Bobby Buckner (.325, 12 RBI) and Weston Montgomery (.300) also hitting .300-or-better.
On the mound, left-handed pitcher Jake Liedka will get the start for the Islanders. He is 1-0 on the season and will be making his first start of the season.
