A day after being named the Louisville Slugger National Hitter of the Week, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi junior Trey Hernandez was named the Southland Conference Hitter of the Week.It is the second time in his career that he received the honor
Hernandez blasted four home runs in four games driving in 14 runs. He had two-home runs and six runs batted in against Nebraska on Friday driving in a career-high six. He was 10-of-20 at the plate with a slugging percentage of 1.100 and a .524 on-base percentage.
It is the second time in his career that he has been recognized by a national publication for his performance during a week. As a freshman, Hernandez was recognized by PING! Baseball as one of its spotlight players. He earned the honor in 2008 after hitting .714 for a week with five home runs and 14 RBI over five games with TCU, Baylor and Nicholls.
UT Arlington's Jason Mitchell was the SLC Pitcher of the Week after receiving national honors as well for his performance against Missouri State. Mitchell struck out 18 batters and took a no-hitter into the ninth inning.
