The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association released its 2010 Division I Preseason Poll on Monday with multiple Texas A&M-Corpus Christi opponents ranked in the top 35.

Leading the way is the NCBWA's top-ranked team Texas, which is coming off a 50-16 season in which it finished second at the College World Series to LSU. The Islanders visit the Longhorns in early April for a pair of games on April 6 and 7.

Rice is also in the top five. The Owls finished last season with a 43-18 record and enter this year ranked fifth. The teams will meet twice this season. The first meeting with Rice will be on the last day of the Rice Invitational Feb. 26-28. The Islanders will travel to Houston a second-time for a single game on April 14.

A pair of top 35 teams are part of the field in this season's Whataburger College Classic. Oklahoma is No. 25 with a 43-20. UCLA enters the season at No. 27 and is looking to rebound from a 27-29 mark a year ago.

Two other teams for the Islanders to be wary of in the non-conference season are Elon and Mississippi State, who received votes but did not make the top 25. Elon and the Islanders meet at the Rice Invitational, while A&M-Corpus Christi and the Bulldogs will meet twice on the final day of the Whataburger College Classic.

The Islanders open their season on Feb. 19 as Prairie View A&M visits Chapman Field for a three-game series.
