FOUR SIGN DOTTED LINE WITH ISLANDER BASEBALL

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi head baseball coach Scott Malone announced the addition of four players to NLIs Wednesday on the first day of the fall signing period.

Malone's Islanders added two pitchers - Henry Garcia and Roland Botello, a shortstop Logan Nottebrok, and outfielder Sean Washington.

"We are extremely excited to add this latest group of Islander players," said Malone. "Baseball is a sport where you build your strength through the middle of the field. I think we have done that with this group this year with a pair of pitchers, a shortstop and centerfielder. I feel these players have the potential to come in and play right away."

Malone gave much of the credit for the new class to assistant coach Chris Ramirez who coordinates the team's recruiting efforts.

"As the recruiting coordinator, coach Ramirez works as hard as any coach in the Southland," said Malone. "I have no doubt he has added four players who have a great future and can take us to new heights."

Henry Garcia

Garcia, who originally signed with the Islanders out of high school, comes to A&M-Corpus Christi from Northeast Texas Community College. As a freshman starter, the lefty posted a 4-4 record with a 3.70 ERA in 58 innings with 71 strikeouts and just 14 walks. He earned all-conference honors and was selected to the Texas-New Mexico Junior College All-Star Game. In high school, Garcia was named the All-Valley MVP as a senior after going 8-2 with a 0.47 ERA while striking out 153 batters in 73 innings. He was 12-1 as a junior.

"Henry is very familiar with our program having signed with us two falls ago before attending Northeast Community College," said Ramirez. "Henry is one of the top left-handed junior college pitchers in the state. He is a proven starting pitcher at the college level and will step in and impact our pitching staff immediately."

Roland Botello

The other new hurler will join the Islanders from the high school ranks. Botello is a three-time all-district selection and has been named All-San Antonio as a sophomore and junior at John Jay High School. He was invited to the Texas Rangers Area Code camp this past summer and played for Team Texas.

"Rolando is an extremely gifted right handed pitcher," said Ramirez. "He is a physical young man with one of the best arms in the state of Texas with his fastball reaching the low to mid 90's. Rolando's best days are ahead of him, we are looking forward to seeing him in an Islander uniform."

Logan Nottebrok

Nottebrok is in his senior year at Ronald Reagan High School in San Antonio. He finished his junior campaign with a .410 average, a .700 slugging percentage, and a .569 on-base percentage earning honorable mention all-district honors as the Rattlers went 31-5 reaching the region finals. The infielder added five home runs.

"Logan comes from one of the top high school baseball programs in the state," said the Islander recruiting coordinator. "He is one of the more projectable players we have signed here at TAMUCC. Standing at 6'5, Logan has the ability to play every position on the infield and has a very bright future as an Islander."

Sean Washington

An all-around athlete who has district titles in the 100-meter dash and the long jump to his credit, Washington has focused on baseball the past year. As a junior at Bellaire High School in Houston, which has the tradition of being a top program in the nation, Washington batted .424 with 22 steals. He is a two-time all-district choice and twice has been invited to area code camps by the Texas Rangers. In his three seasons with the Cardinals, the team has amassed a record of 102-14. He is the younger brother of former Islander softball player Shana Washington.

"Sean is an explosive centerfielder," said Ramirez. "We have been longing for a true centerfielder since Chase Williams left and Sean is the first prototypical centerfielder we have had since then. Sean will immediately be one of the best athletes in our program and his speed brings a needed weapon to our baseball team."
