EX-ISLANDER NAMED TO TEXAS LEAGUE ALL-STAR GAME
For Texas A&M-Corpus Christi ace pitcher Trey Hearne has been selected to represent the North in the Texas League All-Star Game to be held July 1 in Frisco, Texas.
Hearne, who pitched for the Islanders during the 2004 and 2005 seasons, is a starting pitcher for the Springfield Cardinals. He leads the team in multiple categories including wins (6), ERA (3.00), innings pitched (69.0) and strikeouts (56). Hearne is tied for the Texas League in wins, is fourth in strikeouts and sixth in ERA.
Hearne had a record-setting career for the Islanders. Hearne was named the Independent Pitcher of the Year as a senior in 2005 and was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America First Team. He posted an 8-1 record and a 2.00 ERA, which was 18th in the nation that season. He finished his two-year career with 16 wins, 201 strikeouts, and a 2.43 earned run average, which are all school records.
Hearne is one of three Islanders to chosen in the baseball draft. Chuck Carter was selected by St. Louis a round ahead of Hearne in 2005. Last year, Omar Gutierrez was selected in the 29th round by San Diego.
