BRYCEN BELL NAMED TO CoSIDA ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT TEAM
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islander baseball player Brycen Bell has been named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VI Second Team. The senior from Fort Collins, Colo. is a Bio-Medical Sciences major who holds a 3.69 overall grade point average.
Before transferring to TAMUCC, Bell spent two seasons at Garden City Community College in Garden City, Kan. where he was an All-Jayhawk Conference team member as well as maintaining a 4.0 grade point average.
Bell has been a consistent part of the lineup, playing in 43 of 50 games this season while starting 38 of them. He is currently hitting .264 with 19 runs scored, three doubles, one home run and 15 RBIs while being the regular starter at the shortstop position.
Bell joins the list of Islanders who achieve both on and off the field, as Paul Saville was named to the first team last season. Josh Plumaj earned second-team Academic All-America honors during the 2007 season and Trey Hearne and Jaime Landin earned first-team honors in 2005.
Bell joins fellow Southland Conference members Josh Cryer of Southeastern Louisiana, Ryan Brauninger of McNeese State, Paul Goldschmidt of Texas State and Jordan Nipp of Northwestern State on the Academic All-District VI teams. Cryer, Brauninger and Goldschmidt were named to the first team while Nipp was a member of the second team.
