After playing its last six games on the road, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball team returns to action at home when it opens a three-game series with Stephen F. Austin at Chapman Field. The series is begins on Thursday at 2 p.m. instead of Friday so the teams can observe the Easter holiday on Sunday.
The Islanders enter the series 2-1/2 games behind the Lumberjacks. The Islanders are 11-21 overall the team is 3-12 in the league after suffering its third sweep in Southland Conference play. They will face the Jacks are 12-17 overall with a 5-9 mark in the league.
A&M-corpus Christi leads the all-time series at 6-5. Last year, the Islanders won each game of the four meetings include all three SLC contests at SFA.
Freshman Weston Montgomery is leading the Islanders with a .340 average at the plate as a freshman, while Martin Parra has a six-game hitting streak raising his average to .333 and is tops on the team with 31 RBI. Sophomore Trey Hernandez is tied for the SLC lead with 11 home runs despite hitting .250. Brett Carnline, who will start in the opener, and Justin Grota lead the team with two wins apiece. Roy Ferdin will start Friday, and Andrew Toppert on Saturday.
Sean Meyers leads the Lumberjacks with a .383 average and 25 runs batted in. He is one four players with three home runs. Tanner Hines is hitting .348 as SFA is batting .293 as a team. On the mound, they have a 4.95 ERA. Alex Moshier leads the team with threes out of the bullpen, while Richard Folmer has five saves. The duo has ERAs of 1.47 and 1.62, respectively.
