CORPUS CHRISTI – Twenty-nine teams took part in the Eighth Annual Islander Athletic Fund Golf Tournament, presented by Fulton Coastcon, on Friday at Corpus Christi Country Club. The team of Ronnie Garcia, Hector Sanchez, Lee Martinez and Arnie Medina took the title in the charity event, shooting a 54 on the day.

“It was a gorgeous day for golf, and I think all of our players really enjoyed themselves,” Director of Athletics Scott Lazenby said. “It was one of our best turnouts, and the student-athletes always appreciate the chance to get to meet the people who contribute to their scholarships. It was a great day for Islanders Athletics.”

The Islanders awarded prizes to the teams that finished sixth, 10th and 16th in addition to the champions. The foursome of Mike Lippincott, Ray Jones, Rod Martin and Wade Spenst finished in sixth; Nick Brazil, Phil Brazil, Luis Aguiles and Fred Lovaas took 10th; and Ed Martin, Suzy Sullivan, DJ Smith and DonEtta Beaty took 16th.
