Texas A&M – Corpus Christi students, faculty and staff gathered on the east lawn of the campus Wednesday night for the annual Lighting of the I ceremony during Homecoming Week.
University President Dr. Flavius Killebrew, along with Islanders student-athletes Jake Kocher (Men’s Basketball) and Ashanti Plummer (Women’s Basketball) spoke to the crowd briefly before the lighting of the I.
The teams will participate in the annual pink games on Thursday night against Lamar in support of breast cancer research. On Saturday, the festivities reach a climax with homecoming games against McNeese State at the American Bank Center, with the women’s game beginning at 1 p.m. In addition to the games, there will also be a parade and pep rally before the start of the men’s contest at 7 p.m.
