CORPUS CHRISTI – The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi Department of Athletics will induct three-time national champion Shadrack Songok (2006-08) and former women’s basketball player Terra Andrews (2002-06) into its Hall of Honor, Director of Athletics Scott Lazenby announced today. They will be the 24^th and 25^th inductees into the prestigious group.

“Shadrack and Terra are two of the greatest student-athletes in the Islanders era,” Lazenby said. “As the only national champion in our intercollegiate athletics history and the leading scorer in our women’s basketball program’s history, they are two of the most memorable people in their respective sports. They both also represent the principles of the Islanders Way, even though they were both standouts here before it became our guiding statement.”

The annual dinner and banquet will take place on Friday, Feb. 8, in the University Center on the campus of Texas A&M – Corpus Christi. The event will be held in conjunction with the university’s Homecoming Week festivities. 

Songok won three NCAA National Championships, two outdoor (10k in 2007 & 2008) and one indoor (5k in 2008) during his time as an Islander, becoming the first national champ in Islanders lore. He competed twice at the Cross Country National Championships and earned All-America honors, finishing 19th in 2006 and seventh in 2007. The seventh-place finish marked the highest finish by an athlete from the Southland Conference in league history. The Kapsabet, Kenya, native broke Southland Conference records in the indoor 5,000 and outdoor 5,000 along with the 10,000.

In 2007 and 2008 Songok earned All-American honors in the outdoor 10k and in 2008 he earned All-American honors in the indoor 5k. Prior to that in 2006 and 2007, Songok clinched the Southland Conference Cross Country Championships to earn Southland Conference Student-Athlete of the Year honors. He was also named the 2008 Southland Conference Outdoor Track Student-Athlete of the Year.

Andrews led the Islanders to the 2005 WNIT and helped the team finish with a then-school record 23-7 mark during the 2004-05 season, including the Independent Championship. Andrews earned Division I Independent Women’s Basketball Player of the Year and First Team honors three times (2003-04, 2004-05, 2005-06) and was tabbed Division I Independent Women’s Basketball Second Team (2002-03).

Andrews currently holds the Islanders career record for points with 1,550 and is second in rebounds with 815. While playing under Head Coach Jodi Kest, she tallied the most field goals in a season with 179 and posted 25 20-point games in a career, which is the most by any Islander. She also tallied 11 20-point games during the 2004-05 season.
