Islanders place 30 Student-Athletes on Southland Commissioner's Fall Honor Roll

FRISCO, Texas – The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi Department of Athletics saw 30 of its student-athletes honored on Thursday after being named to the Southland Conference Commissioner’s Fall Honor Roll. The honor roll recognizes student-athletes that earn a 3.0 or better grade-point average during the fall semester.

“I would like to commend our student-athletes for all of the hard work they put into their academics during the fall semester,”said Interim Director of Athletics Scott Lazenby. “With the support of our coaches and the academic support staff, our Islanders continue to improve in the classroom.”

Leading the Islanders honorees are Sarah Kimaiyo, Jasmine Boutte, Marie Eulitz, Christoph Hintz, Melissa Jones and Shelby Polasek of cross country, as well as Micah Nolan of volleyball. Those seven members of the honor roll held a 4.0 GPA in their respective classes during the semester.

In addition to the 4.0 GPA student-athletes, other cross country members include Kristine Burciaga, Chelsey Arambula, Teresa Tauriello, Kayla Castillo, Vanessa Galindo, Shelby Nicholls, Breanna Briggs, Danielle Higgins, Brenna Pelzel, Alexandria Rossi and Kayla Fischer of the women’s cross country team. Brandon Lacy, Philipp Baar and Valentinas Rudys represented the men’s team.

Brianna Brink, Jordan Flemmer, Alexis Fritz, Jessica Korda, Sarah Sanchez, Ashley Phelps, Logen Bourque and Shelby Coppedge also earned above the required 3.0 GPA for the Commissioner’s Honor Roll.

As an athletic department, the Islanders have nearly doubled the representatives on the team from a year ago. Last January, Texas A&M – Corpus Christi placed 16 on the honor roll compared to 30 this January. The continued improvement reflects the time and effort Islanders athletes and their academic advisors put in over the past 365 days.

The Southland Conference Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll acknowledges participants in all sports sponsored by the league and its member institutions. The honor roll is released within 30 days at the conclusion of the fall and spring semesters, recognizing student-athletes who maintained a minimum 3.00 GPA. Student-athletes, nominated by their respective academic advisors, must have been eligible to compete in a conference sport during the academic year in which the nomination occurs.
