Jennifer Baker is in her fourth year at the Island University. She serves as Director of the Center for Athletic Academic Services (CAAS). CAAS provides services to student athletes that will enhance their academic experience, assist in their retention and development as students as well as promote the CHAMPS/Life Skills program and the five commitment areas (Commitment to Academic Excellence, Athletic Excellence, Personal Development, Career Development & Service).
Services include supervised study hall, a computer lab, individual and group tutoring sessions as well as the availability of learning assistants. Scholastic Supervisors work with the athletic department, students, coaches, faculty and staff to coordinate athlete's schedules, determine academic eligibility and provide necessary support to the athletes.
She is responsible for the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's basketball and baseball teams.
Baker's previous work experience includes 10 years at Texas A&M in College Station serving as Senior Academic Advisor, Wildlife & Fisheries Sciences (2003-08), and Rangeland Ecology & Management (1998-2003). She served as an Associate Account Executive for Travelers Property Casualty from 1996-98.
At Texas A&M, she was awarded the 2006 Presidents Award in Academic Advising and also the AGWAFS Outstanding Staff Award in Wildlife & Fisheries Sciences. In 2003, she received the Diversity Award from the Office of Executive Vice President & Provost.
Baker is a 1996 Texas A&M University graduate with a degree in genetics and received her master's in 2000 in agricultural education.
She is married to Larry Baker III, and has two children Taylor and Kaylin. The family resides in Portland.
